Steamed Golden Syrup Sponge Pudding Recipe

This dessert is perfect for a cold Winter's day. Delicious with custard or fresh cream.


  • 150g Butter

  • 150g Caster Sugar

  • 150g Self Raising Flour

  • 2 Eggs

  • 2 Tablespoons of Milk

  • 4 Tablespoons of Golden Syrup


  1. Beat the butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and creamy.

  2. Sieve the flour and fold into the mixture until fully combined

  3. Grease a 1.2 litre pudding bowl and place the golden syrup in the bottom.

  4. Spoon in the mixture and cover with foil. Tie tightly with string or a rubber band to stop any water entering the mixture.

  5. Steam over a gentle heat for 90 minutes.

  6. Remove from steamer and allow to stand for a further 10 minutes.

  7. Loosen the sides with a palette knife and turn out onto a warmed plate.

  8. Serve with custard or fresh cream and warmed syrup.
